ABOUT

In anything I do, I love to bring out the story behind my subjects, ultimately capturing the moment that speaks volumes about who they are or what it is. I also like to collaborate with writers and art directors, who often add a different perspective to the story - that is always a bonus at any shoot. Of course, if travel is involved then even better.

My own story goes like this. I was born in Edmonton, but raised in Calgary. Before graduating from ACAD in 2005 with a BA in Photography, I spent some time at U of C studying for a BComm and also did a brief stint at Mount Royal in Kinesiology. My forays into these other fields clearly indicated I should pursue something else. So, I took a year off and went out on the road to discover my passion. I found photography.

I’ve been shooting professionally since then, and managing a commercial studio since 2008. Jobs have taken me to lots of interesting places: Argentina, St Lucia, Cuba, New York, LA, Hawaii, Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver and yes, Whitehorse. Did I mention I like to travel? Along the way, I have had the privilege to photograph a number of high profile people with really interesting lives: Olympians, chefs, mayors, actors, and CEO’s. I like to get to know my subject, and really uncover the truth of who they are.

You may have seen my pictures in The New York Times, Canadian House & Home, Readers Digest, and Sportsnet Online. Recently, I have also shot for AT&T, Travel Alberta, CTV and Sunshine Village Ski Resort. My work has been recognized in Communication Arts, Applied Arts, Calgary’s Ad Rodeo and won various awards over the years, but really, I like to think the proof of what I do is in the picture. When not engaged in commercial work, I do fine art photography – look out for upcoming shows.

I have a wonderful wife who happens to be a graphic designer with far better taste than I could hope for, and we have two awesome, rambunctious little boys. I like getting out on a bike, both the road and mountain varieties, and hiking and skiing when I can in our amazing Rocky Mountains. I have been known to fly fish from time to time, but not known to catch much. But then, it’s good to have goals.
